Letter Removal - Performer Gas Ignition Cover
« on: February 17, 2017, 08:16:18 PM »
For those that have a newer performer with white lettering on the gas ignition cover and want a clean look...

I used Rain-X Headlight restorer to successfully remove the white lettering.  You can still catch where the letters use to be at an angle but it's not obnoxious.

YMMV - do at your own risk.

That's a great tip! I ended up having to paint mine.  Wish I would have known about this before the goof off came out.

So.... just apply, rub and wipe?  With a rag or 0000 steel wool?

I rubbed it in with a dry towel and headlight restore going left to right (way of the letters) with medium pressure.  I finished it off with a damp towel, more headlight restorer,  and a circular motion.  Washed it off when I was done in the sink.

I'll do a better pic when I'm done cleaning up the grill.

I just bought a replacement cover for my Gen2.  When I removed the instructions decal that was on the stainless panel some of the goof off got on the cover and etched it white.  Removing the decal was PITA, but I like the clean look. I see that your decal is also removed.

Looks so clean both removed on the black cover and on the SS front panel. Thanks for sharing.
