I know what you mean Steve. I don't want it to lose its originality, but I also don't want my guests to think they'll get hepatitis from eating off it!

There are many forums here explaining restorations. It all depends on how far you want to take it. You can clean it up or do a full blown resto. Ive had great success with the tomato. I used the engine paint enamel from the local auto parts store. Lastly, and most important, you need patience. Thats your best tool. Take it slow and youll love the results. Id still cook on yours, but im a little crazy.

You will not be able to touch up the color, what ever paint you use it will eventually turn black and blister off.  Don't waste your time with that.  Get it all cleaned up and get the stains and paint graffiti off and it will look awesome.  Getting this back up and running and putting this back in service is what this site is all about.  Great job so far, just clean it and go from there.....

I'm sorry I just couldn't help myself! I also picked up a Model C so this is now a C and H Reno!

Bought one set of new handles from Brian, can't wait to get them. The others have removed (hacksaw'd the rivets) and sanded back, will put them in an oil bath next


Reconditioned the legs aka Weber forum advice, one final polish and they will be good to go


Removed the tag with steel wool (sorry not sorry- I hate taggers)

Yes the model C handles lasted well and came up great. Just need to find some ss bolts...
