Here in AZ I always have this fear of micro bursts. One of our neighbors about five houses down had his porch roof ripped off his house. Monsoon season can be unpredictable. Glad your kettle is ok!
Do you cover your grills? I have a cover for my grill at my buddies house, but it isn't even on the grill since windows rip it off every few days. I haven't bothered covering the ones I have at my place. Other than the last three weeks which have been unusually wet, its dry enough here I figure the little bit of rain we get isn't going to hurt anything. I also use my grills too much to want to have to bother with covering and uncovering them. If I ever start worry about the hot desert sun or little bit of rain messing with my handles I'll just cover them in some foil.
