Very cool story! Got to love the duel grills ;D.

You should link your build. Might be of some inspiration.
Still need a 22" yellow

Please see this through, I love the look of this table and obviously it found it way back to you.  There is some sort of attachment between you and the table.  Here we call it Kettle Karma.   The people here will offer all kinds of encouragement and ideas.  They have lots of great creativity and I think you can take something good and make it over the top great.....Awesome table, awesome story, welcome to the group.....

@gps4 Thanks for bringing this project to the WKC, its the type of thing that inspires me and alot of charcoal stirring freaks.

Bottoms up to the man that made it and the guy that resurrected it!

However! IMO! The original kettles should be left in their place and used.

Cook on!
You can't always get what you want....but if you try sometimes you get what you need

What a great story; thank you for sharing it.  I agree, that cart is heavy duty.  The builder (or designer) did not want it to fail and they succeeded.
However, you should be able to separate the burner, wind shield, and removable grate in just a couple of minutes with a 4 1/2" angle grinder with a cutting disc to make them easier to work on.
Good luck with the rehab and please post picks as you go.

Super cool cart and even better story. I wish you luck finishing this project. Hopefully you are not like me (better at taking things apart rather than putting them together). I can never find time to finish something!

I was able to get the two piece burner off of one of the grates....

The pipe bracket that this was threaded into is still welded to the grate, so it may just be a matter of replacing these pieces.

Don't know where I can find this kind of replacement, but it would save me a lot of headache if I don't have to take apart and reconfigure that burner grate

Upon further inspection, the existing mounting bracket was FUBAR, so I took my angle grinder to it and removed everything inside the wind shield

As luck would have it, I had a crawfish boiler burner up in the attic of my shop that just so happen to fit inside the existing windshield.

I was not so lucky with the other burner. I could not get the angle grinder in to cut the welds.

As it were, I had to cut the windshield off, then the burner, and grind the rough areas down as best I could

I will try to soak the grate and windshield in apple cider vinegar to remove as much rust as I can, sand blast them down and repaint them with high heat paint.

Once that is done, I will find another burner that I can mount on the windshield and weld the windshield back onto the grate.

After dealing with removing the burners from the grates, I wire brushed the frame as best I could. There does not seem to be any areas that are rusted through, just surface rust.

I will give it the once over with an orbital sander and then sand blast any problem areas, give it a coat or two of primer, and then paint it with high gloss black enamel.

Once the frame is painted, I will drop  the kettles in and that will be that.

Welcome bro. Cool project. I would be tempted to eliminate 1 burner and make the other side dedicated prep with storage under.

I got to thinking about this, and wondered what I could do with a high pressure burner on one end to fry fish/boil crawfish/start charcoal and a low pressure burner on the other end to pair with a wide griddle like the camp chef griddle so I could do some breakfast or hibachi.

Everything I've seen about the large camp chef griddle shows it using two burners.. I might could fit two low pressure burners under the 24" x 24" grate.

My birthday is coming up in January...so maybe I'll get lucky and get a griddle
