Charcoal storage in your Performer

How you you store your charcoal in your Performers charcoal bin?  Do you keep it in the bag and just slide the bag in the bin or do you empty our the bag into it and scoop our charcoal as needed? Do the scoops that they sell for charcoal work any good in that tight space?

I just keep mine in the bag and placed in the bin,  but was just curious what others are doing.

I leave it in the bag. It seems to me to be a major PITA to have to scoop it out of there. Keeping it the bag will also help prevent the charcoal from absorbing moisture.

I leave it in the bag too.  Very easy to pull it out and fill a chimney.

Add another for keeping it in bag.  It keeps anything else you might want to store in there cleaner, and is easier than scooping out a little at a time.

I don't store it in the charcoal bin on my Performers.  I keep it in one of those plastic Kingsford charcoal Kaddy's.  It seems to keep the moisture out better.

I don't store mine in the bin. I store a roll of paper towels, 409 cleaner, lighter cubes etc... All the crap I like to use and have hidden.

This is my approach as well. I keep cleaning stuff and wood in bags in the charcoal bin.

Guess I'm the odd one out so far. I dump the bag in the bin.

I pour the charcoal (brics) directly into the bin on my SSP.   I have a medium sized ice scoop I use for scooping it out.

It works really well.

It's handy to have the charcoal close at hand if needing to add a few brics to a dwindling fire.

I store lump in a rubber maid storage box.

I wonder if there are different percents of bagged vs poured charcoal in bin for SSP vs. NSP (new style performer) owners.

I think I would be more inclined to keep it bagged if I had a NSP instead of the SSP.

I keep everything BUT charcoal in my Performer's bin.

I keep new bags of limp and briquette charcoals stored in the garage.  Once opened, it is stored in the back shed along with chimney starters, and other bbq stuff.  My Performer bin is filled with smoking sweet maple wood chucks for now.

Darko

Bag of charcoal in the bin. It doesn't last long enough to draw any moisture.

I just dump it in the bin.  Couple three days later I dump another one in.  But it is a bit of a hassle digging it out -- think I'll try putting the whole bag in...
