Thrift Store Grey
« on: April 17, 2016, 08:36:11 AM »
Drove past a local thrift store Friday and spotted a grey N code daisy wheel just as employees were locking up for the day.  No price tag but the condition appeared nearly new with the exception of the handles.  Picked it up Saturday for $15!  It is missing the ash catcher, has a narrow chip smaller than a match head and the whitewalls are gone.  There is no rust anywhere.  I will post pics to show before and after cleaning.

Here are some before pictures:
Lid handle on the left treated with oil.  Bowl handle too far gone with rot.

Hinged grate and charcoal grate in good condition

Leg sockets and daisy wheels in good condition

Lid shows just a light coating of seasoning

The Chip

Lid handle solid

Lid vent in perfect unrestored condition

Bowl needs some razor work

After pics will be coming soon.

Very nice...well worth 15 bucks there. Congrats. Got to love a 3 wheeler for low and slow.

Awesome pickup!  As previously mentioned, three wheelers are awesome for really fine tuning your temps for slow and low.  I usually shut two vents down all the way they control with one.  I can't wait to see the after pics!

Here are some pics after a light cleaning.  Still need to finish bowl scrub and legs and put some spar varnish on the handles.  Now on the lookout for an ash catcher to complete the restoration.

Got to admit that the grey looks pretty nice in the sunlight...
