Old Mastertouch vs New Mastertouch - Pics
« on: November 01, 2014, 12:54:34 PM »
Here's some pics to compare a new Mastertouch with an "O" Mastertouch. Excuse the mess. It was raining and I had to take pics in my storage area.

First, the triangle is larger to accommodate the taller legs.

New

Old

Taller than an "AT" 26.75" Kettle

Weber may have to make a longer cover for the Mastertouch

Assembly was a piece of cake. The only thing new was installing the buttons in the legs. They don't keep them from wobbling but they will not fall out of the bowl now. The warming rack blocks the grate hinges when installed. Not a big deal to me. The handle is the same as my AT 26.75 but the vent orientation is on the rear, not the side.

i'm going to guess the same legs as the 26, just slightly at a different angle making the MT slightly taller.   :)

Also some comparison pics.

Alas there is one thing the old MT has going for it (this year at least in the US and that would be color), but the new ones defiantly look cool.  I think the leg height explains why Weber wasn't concerned with making the new ash catcher sit lower than the old ones.  When I made a MT out of a silver and ordered the new ash catcher I found on old kettles you will not have enough room to put a standard chimney on the bottom shelf but with the added height you have plenty of room.  The extra height & new wheels also gives the allusion of being a larger kettle in the pic till you put it next to your 26er

Will do. It will be a day or two before I get back to my storage.

Congrats on scoring a new MT!

The warming rack blocks the grate hinges when installed.

Does the new warming get "installed" (and if so, how), or does is simply rest on the grates, like the old ones do?

Thanks for the thorough comparison!

It comes with the baskets, gourmet grate and warming rack. The warming rack just sits on top of the grate.

Haha just kidding. It was late and beer was involved and I associated the new MT with you automatically.

Apologies to dwnthehatch! Nice comparison photos. Thanks for sharing those' :D
