SOS! Calling for any M or N code SS Performers
« on: September 10, 2014, 05:40:21 AM »
We are wanting to know if anyone has an SS Performer model dated M (1990) or N (1991) If you have or have seen one, please post them here. Some sources give 1990 as the first year of the Performer, some give 1992. I could have sworn I had seen a Red M code but I cant find the photo.

I've got pics of my Red N SS Performer here.

This SSP did not originally have the gas assist/casters on it... I mod'd it last year.

The earliest SS I've come across was also an "N" (Black) - No gas assist.

Golly had a performer with G.A that had a primer button you needed to press before pressing the igniter button. I can't remember what year I was though, pretty sure it was one of the first performers though
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

JayCee has this performer now :) . I can confirm it is an N code model with gas assist. Here is the topic.

Yep @Winz,  it's gas assisted:

I have an old Weber Performer that's been stored in my garage for the past 8 years.  It was a hand-me-down from my dad who got it when his neighbor moved.  His neighbor happened to be one of the sons of Weber's founder George Stephen.  When I look at the vent on the cover of the gray kettle I see that it's stamped with an "N" which, from what I've seen here, indicates that the grill was from 1991.  Was Weber actually making these grills commercially at that time or am I in possession of one of the prototype grills that was made from an older kettle?

The grill is in good shape with some underlying rust bubbling under the cart's paint and some chipping enamel on the lid's equator.  I think with just a little work I could get this grill looking great.  I can post some pictures this weekend.

Any thoughts on the value or if this is in fact some early prototype?  I'm probably interested in selling this, but I'd love for one of you Weber's aficionados to care for it.  (I too am a Weber fan -- I have a 20 year old Black Kettle that's in great shape and a 10 year old Genesis Silver B.)

Thanks for posting @pbe gummi bear   I saw that one as well i my search today.  I see that DG632 indicates that it is an N code, but I did not see an actual photo of the vent.

Everyone - please keep them coming!  Looks like we can say that there are N code (1991) performers - still looking for an "M".

This is exactly why we're researching this.

There is evidence showing that the timeline is incorrect.

Just for arguments sake .....

It is possible that no M codes exist, and yet the performer was released in 1990.  We may need to re-allign our thinking, because I have seen, as have others, grills released in say October with the next year's date code on it.  Plausible that this happened in 1990-1991.

To Troys point, this is why we are doing this. BUT To your point, G$, Weber could have released the Performer late enough in 1990 that they had already switched over to 1991 vents. Just like dark blue and dark green listed in a copyright 1978 catalog with "T-79" printed in the corner of each page for "1979"
