So today at the WKC meet I cooked on my red MT for the first time. I've had this kettle in my possesion for a while now but I finally got it cleaned up and out of storage. It's in great shape, only a few small nicks on the lid edge. At the end of the day, I was cleaning it out to pack so I propped the lid into the bale, pulled out the grates and charcoal basket and then went to pack those away. All of a sudden a huge gust of wind blows and I hear a loud CLANG. I looked over and the lid was still in the lid bale......... except the entire assembled kettle was laying 90 degrees on the ground. :'(  The lid acted like a sail and the entire kettle popped a wheelie. There are now two big chips and dings on the lid right where the rollers touch the lip. It looks like someone took a 1/4" rod and took two crisp whacks at the lid lip.  Oh well- yolo.

At the end of the day, when we were packing up. No worries, at least there was a story.

I've always wondered how lids or kettles get their beauty marks. Now I know of one way, that sucks man,

It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Dude, relax your chicken.

Sorry to hear that.  Seems like nothing ever happens to ordinary items during 20 years of use, but its always the one time that I take out my best that some disaster strikes.

Oh damn.  I always worry about that.  So much so that I often put the lid on a table instead of using the Slide Aside even though I really like the Slide Aside.

I gets pretty windy here in NE and on those days, the slide aside remains benched in favor of one of our spare tables. I don't even trust the lid hook above 15-20 mph gusts
