New WSM grommets
« on: February 28, 2014, 03:54:47 AM »
Called Weber to see if I could buy some and they told me no. :(

Their answer was "it wont work on older models". So I told them I would be drilling a hole either way, but to no avail.

Personally I think its easier to notch the mid section. Its not ideal to feed the wires and probes through that grommet.
Not everyone deserves to know the real you. Let them criticize who they think you are.

I bought a whole new middle section. Unfortunately, I like the notch better.

How much is a whole new middle section? Will Weber sell these? I figured they would make you go out and buy a whole new smoker? Your prefer the notch better? Does the grommet not work well?
This is the original Weber kettle. The most powerful bbq grill in the world and can blow your taste-buds clean off! So, you have to ask yourself one question: "Do you feel hungry? Well, do you punk?"

Step 1) Go to your local Weber retailer
Step 2) Write down the serial number from the lid-vent on one of their WSMs on the floor
Step 3) Call Weber and tell them you need a new grommet because we told you to feed hot-coals through the old one and it melted.  LOL
Step 4) Drill hole and install grommet

Or...

Call Weber and tell them you want to order part #85037 Grommet for "another project" you're working on.

I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

You guys are funny...  OK, you win.  That's better.

Having said that, I forgot to mention, I'm a HUGE fan of "the notch" and would highly recommend it.  So far I've notched my 18 WSM, 14-UDS, an SJP, and my main 22" kettle.  It's just such a simple mod and really works well.  (Dare I say better than the WSM grommet, but I've never used the new grommet)   I still don't understand why Weber doesn't just notch all of their cookers before the porcelain goes on it.  This spring "The Ranch" will be the next to go under the notch-knife.
