Wow! Thanks a bunch for posting this! I learned some new things today from this, that Weber made the Smokey Joe's only in black by 1978 (I wonder when they brought the red ones back, must have been sometime in the 1980s), They made permanent mount gas kettles, which that type of gas grill was huge around here back then (for regular box style gassers). Also, 1977 must have been the last year for yellow and lime kettles. I figured I was close on when dark blue and dark green came out, 1978 (previously believed to be 1979 so I was a year off ) so that means there's some untapped undated blues and greens out in the world somewhere just waiting to be rescued. I want a blue or green MBH in the worst way. Notice in the photos they used 1976-1977 kettles for the black and red 18 and 22's with the small lid vent tabs, but the others have the large tabs..
It looks like they used an early 70s red for their cut-out kettle and put new wheels on it. I'd love to see one of those in person Wow this is some serious pr0n for me, I am so geeking out on this, I may need a moment...
BTW, its good to still see George on the catalogs as late as '78.
Hey Marty, the cover would make a great WKC group dub photo....
A thousand thank you's Joel!
