Rescued One From The Scrap Pile
« on: July 16, 2013, 03:49:21 PM »
Rescued this 1990 grayish, blueish, black from the scrap pile this past Sat. Took me a little bit to find all the parts, missing the ash pan, but they were all there. The moron threw it off his truck, legs connected and all, so one of the leg sockets broke off. No biggy broke pretty clean, just have my good buddy weld that thing right back on there and put her into service.

Pictures are funny, it looks a lot more grey, blueish..... I'll call it faded black I guess

Nice save!

I'd consider drilling and bolting. Welding could do more damage to the adjacent porcelain. They're welded at the factory before the porcelain coat is applied.

I've rescued a couple that had broken legs.  Luckily I have access to a pretty good custom fabrication shop with top notch TIG welders and they've fix me up.  I would suggest your friend TIG weld the leg holder back on...and he will have to remove the porcelain down to bare metal where he does do the welding...but I'm sure he/you knew that.

I love scrap pile saves!
