I used some Mesquite lump charcoal the other day to bbq a couple pork tenderloins, and I can’t say I enjoyed it. To me, it smelled like a combination of burning tires, road tar and an electrical fire.
The tenderloins came out fine, and the family said the bbq smelled good/fine, so it’s got to be my nose.
I usually stick to oak/hardwood varieties of lump and maybe throw in a few hickory chips if I want smoke.
Anyone else experience anything like this?
