Replacing grate straps

I got a MBH red 22" recently for $15. When I went to pick it up I realized it was missing the grate strap in one of the locations. Has anyone had any recent success with replacing them? There's a lot of porcelain pop too so if welding is required it wouldn't be ruining a perfect kettle.

I assisted @1spacemanspiff in replacing grate straps on a tabbed bowl from a Sequoia cart.  You just need to find/have a donor bowl to source the grate straps.  Here is a link to the thread with photos of the process.               (*Disclaimer - I did not do the welding. I have a "guy")

@mhiszem

I fabricated my own grate straps with 1018 steel. I used a 8-32 x 1/2" SS pan head screw, washers and nut to attach to the bowl. This requires drilling a small hole in the kettle.

See attached pictures.

I have a donor grate strap that was removed from a 22" kettle. It's been cleaned up and ready for installation. I can drop it in the mail if you'd like me too

Cheers

Are there no part numbers for straps? Can you not order these, or do you have to find a donor bowl?

I've never seen a part number, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Donor kettle or fabricate your own.
