Q3200 Questions
« on: March 23, 2021, 03:42:36 PM »
I’m in need of a gasser for quick weekday cooks. I’ve read most of the old posts which were favorable.

We haven’t had a gas grill for many years. My wife wants one for when I travel and she doesn’t want to “mess” with charcoal.

So my questions-
We do a lot of marinaded chicken breast. I use a lot of the quick 30minute type marinades which are rather runny. That doesn’t bother me over hot coal but I’m thinking will be a total mess on the Q without the heat shields.  Same thoughts with Brats and a good greasy burger.  Am I over thinking this?

Also read a few negative reviews on plastic cart components melting and some other on being flimsy.

What are your thoughts on this unit?

No experience on the q but the gas go anywhere is great. The older one with the large flavorizer.

FWIW I picked up an older Q3000 a while back. Hung onto it and then finally cleaned it up and gave it to my son when they moved into a house.

It is a great grill with no issues, melting or otherwise. I also picked up a free griddle for it.

He used the grill all the time - until the baby came [emoji16]

So now my grandson is getting the Weber toy grill for Easter
Dude, relax your chicken.

I purchased a Q3000 on Craigslist and we love it. Not my go to as I love charcoal, but for quick week night cooks and for the wife to use, it is great. I don’t have the heat shield and have had no real problems with the burner tubes. They gum up from time to time but always light up all the way around within 15-30 seconds usually.

For the type of cooking you are describing the 3200 would be a great choice.
You may actually consider one of the smaller Q's as well.  No need to worry
about the plastic cart or shelves either.  They are rock solid.  I have restored
around 40-50 Q series grills and have ZERO complaints about the build
quality, or performance.

Long time Weber Kettle and WSM user and the WeberQ 3200, which will be my first "gasser" type grill, will be added to my BBQ Arsenal within the next couple of months.

How many people are you trying to cook for? A Q2000 series would be more than sufficient for cooking up chicken breasts and brats for a small family while also being small enough to be portable. The Q3000 series in a weird size class where its not really portable but more catered to people who want more cooking space but find a full grill setup too complicated or imposing. The Q series is meant to be more of a searing grill. You'll notice there is nominall burner deflectors built into the grate to absorb heat and protect the burners from direct dripping. The lack of flavorizers also makes it stupid easy to clean off the burner holes. Just pull the grate, brush off the burner, and you're back in business. The q series also has a small drip that you should empty frequently and before moving it.

Thanks for the helpful comments.

We’re usually cooking for four to six.

As far as grease, marinade, and mess...the drip tray with the little aluminum pans work well.  My experience is with my baby Q and a q1000, so not as big as a 3200 I think.

Very good grill, however, when buying new a stand is included in the price of the Q3200 and not so for the Q2200.

But the 3200 can’t come off the stand so makes it way less portable than 2200-JS
