Weber Performer SS - Regulator and Hose Question
« on: July 30, 2018, 09:51:39 AM »
Hi everyone, love the forum.  I recently bought a Weber Performer SS on craigslist.  It has the old quick connect LP tank fitting, which runs to a regulator and then directly to the burner.  I don't have access to any old LP tanks with the quick connect fitting, so I'm looking for a way to swap this out.

I have seen in other threads that Part #62642 is the replacement hose/regulator assembly with the QCC1 connection for this grill, but I would prefer not to spend $100 on that part since that's more than I paid for the grill.  My question for you is - do I have any other options?  Can I just buy a standard hose/regulator assembly (like Part #74237) or will that not fit my burner?  I've looked for adapters with a female quickconnect on one end and a QCC1 or full size tank on the other, with no luck.  Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.   8)

What's your budget on this project?

$60 will get you a new 5 lb propane tank with the "normal" fitting

$8 will get you a new QCC1 fitting for your existing regulator:

Or you can just get the QCC1 adapter  and use a 20# tank.

Thanks. Just to be clear, are you saying the 1/4" female end of that adapter will fit onto the regulator after I remove the quick connect piece?

I don't have a set budget, but would like to spend as little as possible to get this hooked up. I'm considering the below which would just attach to the existing quick connect fitting and essentially convert it to a full size tank. Thoughts?

Attaching a photo of my current regulator in case this helps.

Check out Crumbsnatcher's post where he bought a 5lb propane tank with the new Acme/QCC1 fitting.  He bought a new regulator from Weber, but your old regulator should be compatible with the new tank fitting by changing out the quick connect male fitting with the fitting I mentioned:

If you'd consider using a 20lb tank, there's also this:

FYI @mkegrilling, if you decide to try the new 5 lb tank route, the original tank with the quick connect is a  Manchester 10052.3 and they were still available a few years ago.  They must be ordered through a dealer if they are still available.  I used Ace hardware.

I have thought about replacing the valves in my tanks at some point so I can use the "normal" fittings, but for now I can get them certified and refilled without any problems at all.

The Manchester tank 10054.3 is not an exact fit because of the valve guard on the top is different.  It will work though.

Alternatively, I was over at Kamps Propane a few weeks ago and the guy there said they could recertify an old tank and put a new valve on it.  He said said the cost would be around $10-15.  You might want to check with a local propane dealer and see if they can help you out.

Thanks everyone.  I've decided to buy the 1/4" to acme nut adapter and see if I can run a full size tank that way.  I appreciate all of the suggestions.  I'll post back when I get the part on the grill.
