Made a simple Churrasco rack for my 18" - Brazilian BBQ
« on: March 30, 2018, 12:13:08 PM »
I been looking at the motorized rotisserie style churrasco (Brazilian) attachments such as the Spinnari and Carson Rodizio, which seem really cool, but cost in the $300-$500 range.  I've also seen a several non-rotisserie attachments for the Weber, but these were also very expensive for really just thin metal cut-outs and some skewers.  So, I purchased some 24" skewers and made my own tri-level churrasco rack.  It cost me less than $20 and is made from 3/4" aluminum angle - about $7 for a 6-foot section from Lowes.  Hacksawed and drilled as necessary.  Notched the bottom to fit on the Weber so it would stay put.

I'm gonna give this a try soon, but wanted to share in case others are out there wanting to do some Brazilian style BBQ.

I got the skewers from sadaf.com.  They were only $6.99 for 3 (plus shipping - I think it's a flat fee).  They got here quickly.  I ordered a couples sets of the Wide and Medium, but the Medium ones ended up back-ordered and they said the mediums will be back in stock in May.  But, the Wide ones are great.

Love it.

Got a dumb question about these and other flat skewers.

You can flip the food 180 degrees but will it cook evenly since ya can't put a skewer at the 90 degree position? Thinking of those edges.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Not a dumb question at all - it's a great question.  I was thinking about cutting some slits into the rack just so I could put them at 90 degrees.  I was gonna give the rack a test run first and then see if I needed to cut some slits (or some other modification) for some 90 degree action.   8)

Edges should cook just fine via thermal updraft, unless your kabobs are extremely wide and the edges bunch up together.
