First beer can chicken
« on: October 13, 2017, 12:42:00 PM »
Attempting my 1st whole chicken on the performer,I’ve got a little rack that holds the beer can and you just plop the chicken down on it. I noticed that the lid just barely fits back on and it feels like it’s touching the top of the chicken. I guess as the chicken cooks it will shrink down some. Has anyone else ran into this problem and if so how did you handle it? Do they make a spacer for the kettle? I’ll post a picture of the start and hopefully remember to take and post pictures as we go along.

That's a good sized bird ….

Ya, cook them on the charcoal grate.  Done it this way several times and it works great.
No need to worry about the lid touching.

I thought about doing that but was afraid the coals would be too close and burn it. Thanks for your reply,I’ll try that next time. I’m still learning about this grill. I have a Big Easy oil less cooker that I normally do turkey and chicken in,but I wanted to play with my new toy!

I arrange do mine how you are doing except I don't use a holder. I put the can in the bird and set it on the grate. The legs hold it up. It slumps slightly and allows it to fit without touching. Looks like your off to a great start.
