What's going on with Weber utensils?
« on: December 07, 2015, 04:09:31 PM »
Does anyone know what is going on with vintage Weber utensils lately? I noticed a few eBay auctions currently going on. One fella is asking $100 for a set and another fella is asking $144 for his set. What is up with these crazy prices? Have I missed something here?
This is the original Weber kettle. The most powerful bbq grill in the world and can blow your taste-buds clean off! So, you have to ask yourself one question: "Do you feel hungry? Well, do you punk?"

Some people are just nuts :o? I'd spend that if they came with some steaks! ;). A grill maybe but utensils?

Chalk it up to trickle down freakonomics.  "Honey, some dude just sold his light blue kettle thingy for $1600!  My spatula must be worth $200."

We've become victims of our own obessions.

It's all the WKC's fault.

stuff is only worth what people will pay for it. I knew the blue would sell for a lot but I was shocked to see it go for what it did... I paid $25 for a red MBH kettle with out a twist on  ash pan. I then spent $30 for the ash pan. When I was making a deal with a guy on this forum i stopped and thought I am paying $5 more for a part to this grill then what I paid for it... You can't find the ash pans anywhere and it made sense to me so I bought it. The world of antiques and discontinued merchandise is always interesting!

It's the American Picker effect. Everyone thinks their crap is worth a million bucks.

And every now and then, a fool comes along and helps them think they're right.

Yep, we paved paradise and put up a parking lot.  Except our WKC parking lot is filled with thousands of beautiful Weber grills attended to by thousands of happy owners.

Google.. what's my weber worth? Or vintage grill. Or anything like that. The searches go to WKC. Victims of our own obsessions indeed.
