Chefs Choice 609 Food slicer
« on: November 11, 2015, 12:39:51 PM »
I happened upon a lightning deal on Monday for a food slicer.  Normally $149 but on sale for $72.33 so of course I couldn't pass it up.  Cooked some wings last night so I went ahead and did a chicken breast so I would have something to slice up today.  So far I have no complaints.  It did a really good job on the chicken breast.  I'm looking forward to smoking a turkey breast and slicing that in the next few days.

@MikeRocksTheRed I did this a while ago and it was great. As some folks suggested if you have an injector it definitely wouldn't hurt but I didn't think it was necessary. I used my kitchen scale and measured 2% of the breast's weight in salt and honey for reference. You could use regular sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, etc.

@austin87  -  Thanks for the link to your post.  I'm heading to the grocery store shortly to see if I can find a boneless skinless turkey breast.  If I can't find one, I know they will have them on the carcass since the Thanksgiving sales on turkey just started today!  I actually don't like honey flavored lunch meats that much, but will probably still make some for other people over the holidays, so I'll definitely use your technique.  I'm guessing it would work just as good for ham too.

The one I got had a skin on it, I just pulled it off, salted it, and pan fried it for a nice crackling. Goes great crumbled up on salads.

Just picked up a butterball turkey breast roast, a ham, and a bone in turkey breast to smoke up and slice!  Might have to do some smoking during work hours the next few days!

I had that slicer, and then lucked upon a $2,700 Berkel used for $200...couldn't pass it up, and basically donated the Chef's Choice to my cousin.

I love my Berkel.
