You could try either:
1-Get a piece of 1 x 1/2" or 3/8" thick aluminum stock (whatever works), cut it to size, and bolt it to the pot to form a new lip
2-Find an old SJ bowl, use a grinder to cut off the lip of the bowl, and JB weld it to the pot to form a new lip

If neither works, you can always buy a Vasconia.

Good Thinkin' G !!!

Yeah, the UDS fix.....

If you cut off the lip & bolt aluminum strip to the INSIDE, it reduces the circumference by just a little

A lot of the 55 gallon drums a just a tad too big for a Weber lid & that's what people do to make it work......

Might mess with getting the grates in & out a little, but may also work just fine!!!

If they ever did bring back the 1880, I bet it would be around $250.

Well the original 1880 in 1983 ran for $99.99, so in 2011 money, its $222.24 according to the inflation calculator. So, yeah I'd say $250 would be about right. Itd still be cheaper to do a SJ mini WSM. It'd be worth the extra $50 for the 18.5 WSM.  :-\

Chad: Thank you! I'll have to think about it. That red SJ was hard to come by and am looking at doing a mini red bullet.

No problem Craig, a red sj IS hard to come by, and my offer was partly in jest....that is unless you're seriously contemplating it ;)

Of course if it was priced at $225 the difference would be $75. I'm not so sure that everyone would think the 18.5 would be worth the extra $75. The 22.5 is $100 more than the 18.5 and Weber still sells plenty of the 18.5s. But it would not surprise me if many purchasers thought that the 1880 was too small.

Since smoking is such a long process, perhaps it is better for most to make it worth while to have a larger unit they can load up with meat. (Not like the episode of Primal Grill where Raichlen puts one chicken in the middle of the top grate on a 22.5 where it looked like a pimple on a watermelon.  :P )
