SS Performer rehab

I just purchased an old SS Performer and the One Touch sweeper system is frozen with rust, and needs replacement. Suggestions on how to break out the rusted-together pieces would be appreciated. Thank you for your help! Eric

Hi Eric,
At the head of the "Kettles & Accessories' is a Sticky that has removal info....in the 1st section there.....
http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/weber-kettle-technical-reference-library/
Some people use Dremels, some hacksaw, some grinder (careful to not get too wild & chip the surface)
& some folks will try to release the rust & take it apart that way....if it's real bad, cut it out....
There's de-rusting info there too.......

The easy answer is if you saw or cut on both sides of the nut, it will drop thru.....

Guy here traded me a kettle with a frozen up OneTouch mechanism - after cussing him for a couple of minutes, I grabbed my Dremel and cut the frozen rod, the junk dropped our and the new parts fit right in

I used to drill out the thumbscrew until the handle pulled loose....
but now I use a hacksaw and cut off both ends of the handle rod. The nut serves as a nice guide, the washer prevents kettle damage.
Takes 5 minutes to do the whole job.
