Chimney Starter Mod
« on: June 08, 2014, 06:15:49 PM »
I know a few of you probably already do this but I'd thought I'd show as I love this mod, especially since using lump charcoal, no need to worry about those small pieces falling through the gaps of the grate . Best bit is I haven't had a burnt toe since doing this mod
All you need is some expanded mesh, angle grinder, tie wire and some pliers
Remove the grate in the bottom of the starter. Trace it onto some expanded mesh

Cut the circle out(Use PPE), tie it to the grate with the wire and fit it back into the starter and your done!

Here's one I did to the Weber starter, just flip the grate so the cone faces to the bottom

I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

I needs to try this. I've got some of this expanded mesh stored in the kettle garage..

Expanded metal is my favourite for fabbing kettle accessories. Great job, Joel!  :D

I have to do the chimney mod, for the rare occasions when I use it. I have expanded on top of all my coal grates. I scored a 4 x 8  piece for $20.00 because one edge was damaged.
