Since I had the chance to photograph the original kettle last week, I went ahead and updated the poster. Click on the picture and it will link to the Flickr image:

I'm curious about the painted brown & red ones near the top. Is that a handle welded to the vent? How do they turn? Were they painted from the factory? What years & models are they?

yes the handle strap is welded to the vent. They turn just like the normal vents.
They were "painted" at the factory. They are early smokey joes.
I don't recall the year, Craig or Jeff will probably know for sure.
