Really good buy except that I would get all anal about it. Soon I'd have to buy the stuff to weld stainless, and my fire basket would be all SS, and then I'd have to buy or build SS grates, and then some shiny side shelves... yep, the $1500 UDS.

Assuming it was a food grade barrel, I would just burn it out with a big fire. If it does not come out, I would not worry about it. You are cooking low and slow not at 800 degs. Not sure the liner ever burned out of my UDS. I remember the Weber Kettle lid never did fit well. That metal band around the opening looks like the solution. Too bad that was not on the Mother of all UDS forums in BBQ Brethren when I built my UDS back in the day.
