26 lean ?

For those of you who have cut the front leg to fix the lean on your 26er, how much did you cut off ?

It's been a long time but it seems like I cut off at least an 1 1/2". It was perfect when I first did it but it's now leaning just as bad as it was.  I've transported it a few times so maybe I screwed my leg sockets up.
