Smokey Joe as a sear station

I built a table for my 26" kettle and though I am planning on getting the slow 'n sear, I have been thinking about cutting another hole in the table to mount a Smokey Joe.
I feel like I could really crank the heat up on the Joe and sear on that. I am sure someone has done it before, but I can't find any info.
Curious what people's thoughts are on this.

I really like that idea. Very original. I'd like to see how that turns out!

At very least, it's  a grate place to light and rest a hot chimney.

I've seen other people say that too.  I always just sit my chimney on the charcoal grate of the kettle I'm using.

I haven't done it but I hear a smokey joe makes a great steak cooker.

I confirm you can cook righteous steaks on a Smokey Joe.
Beer! It's what's for dinner...

Get a Craycort CI grate on that SJ and you'll be searing like a pro.
I've got the one piece CI grate and it sears in some great marks.

I built the table out of old pallets a couple years ago, and finally got around to adding the "sear station." Not sure if it was necessary, but I made that part fold up. So far I like it. I can get the Smokey Joe piping hot while I finish off whatever is on the 26". Otherwise I end up waiting so long for the chacoal in the big grill to come up to searing temp.
Used it for the first time tonight with the GrillGrates that member AZ2FL got me which I think will be the perfecting final touch.

I'm late to the party - LOL.

I've used my Joe as a sear station, too.

I've also used it as a warmer... using less coals.

Great work on the table, btw!!!

@Nasoj21
Nice setup.
I'm glad you like the SJ GG and will put them to good use. They were collecting dust in my shed.

Cheers
