Used 26" off CL
« on: May 07, 2021, 08:08:25 PM »
I ended up getting a second 26" today off CL for $100. I have been watching for a while. No one ever sells them. It is an older style and I am not exactly sure what I am going to do with it yet. I may build a new table for two 26", I may build it it's own table, and I may restore it though I haven't looked into how yet.
I am impressed with how much everyone seems to know about all the various models from over the years and wonder if there is anything cool to know about this one.
It has a lower cooking grate than the one I purchased new 3 years ago. It has a crosshatched charcoal grate that doesn't have an outer ring. It has three evenly spaced lower vents, but sadly no sweep. It is motled gray with three legs.
I feel like the lower vent might be good because the air intake is closer to the charcoal, but not sure how much that theory plays out.
Anything cool to know?

If you happen to decide you don’t want it….I’d gladly take it off you hands.

That is a Weathered Warrior and looks really nice. The black coloring has faded after years in the sun giving it that patina look. There’s a whole thread on it and you might want to add yours to it. Looks like some oil or grease got on the front part of the lid but that will fade back to the patina color in a month or two after you cook on it and being in the sun.

It looks like somebody replaced the wheels a few years ago. Does it sit level?

We call these vintage 26’ers Fleetwood’s.  They are amazing low and slow machines.

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Yeah, I wasn’t sure when the Fleetwood switched to the insert whitewalls.

Nice. 26” is the best all around cooker period imo.  Great you have both.

It is sitting level. I started cleaning it out. Did it originally have a tray to catch ash? It must have otherwise hot ash would drop out on the ground. I looked at the weather warrior thread and most of those have one, but I don't see any markings on the legs where one may have been attached.
I was surprised to hear that it was originally black.

It had a tray like this. There were reproductions being sold, but I'm not sure when/if there will be another run.

I guess I will make a tray for it. Looking at that weathered warrior thread makes me want to leave it alone. Still trying to decide if I should put it in a table. I think if I do, I will keep the legs on it, though that looks goofy, and I won't put a hinge kit on it like I did my other.

Looking at the top vent it's at least a 1978, so those wheels would be correct.  Great grill!  Congrats!
