Kettle well Old vs New

So, this may have already been discussed if it was I apologize this is new to me.

This is my first exposure to a  truly old kettle so as I have been looking at this thing it seems that the cooking rack sits lower in the kettle than the newer ones.

So I got out my tape measure to take a look see.

Observe OLDIE


Measurement about 2 7/8 inches


'99 Master-Touch (my sweetheart)


Measurement about 2 inches maybe slightly more.


Anyway, something new to me just thought I would pass it along.
