Finally spotted my first yellow in the wild. I couldn't get close to it from the road I could see MBH's and metal wheels. They had been cooking on it and it was kinda rough but still standing proud. Would it be worth a stop and how would I approach them?

Do you have a nice newer kettle premium? I wouldn't go empty handed. Take them a newer one and see about swapping with them.

What he said, it never hurts to ask. Obviously be courteous and not too pushy. Find out the history too if you can.

Only thing I'm worried about is my poker face. I'm sure I'll walk up grinning like a school girl! That's a good idea with a newer kettle. I'll start looking. Thanks.

If it were me I wouldn't just ask for the grill. I'd start a conversation about grilling and BBQ and get to know them a bit. Make some small talk, like @mhiszem said get a backstory if you can. Then tell them about your hobby and passion for older kettles and if they would ever consider parting ways you have an offer for them. If they say no then thank them for their time and maybe leave your number in case they ever change their mind. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do just that.

If it's the only kettle they have its safe to say they're not members here...
You can't always get what you want....but if you try sometimes you get what you need

A red kettle would probably interest them more than a black one and would certainly catch the eye better.

Yes Sir. A red kettle would interest me more too!

Ok then. You go get the yellow and when you got it call me. I have a red for you.
