What would you do?
« on: July 15, 2015, 03:09:27 AM »
So I picked up a MBH last week and one of the leg sockets was a little weak so I had it welded back up to strengthen it back up. Now the guy that welded it for me informed me that it needs some protective coating to protect it from rusting right away. Would you throw some primer on it to keep the rust away or leave it as is? I'm trying to keep it close to original so I'm not sure I want to mar it too much with some primer....

I would just add some oil to it to keep it from rusting and call it done

Maybe some high temp spray paint sprayed on a paper plate. Then use an artist brush to paint it on the area.

If it's black, then I suggest painting that area.  It's an area that is not very visible to anyone.

If it's a colored kettle, then colored paint will ultimately turn black after a number of cooks and the extreme heat exposure.

This method works very well.

It is a faded black now so it looks kinda gray..... I used to work for a paint company so I can get the high heat paint but wasn't sure if I wanted to go down that road or not. Thanks everyone so far! This group is the best!
