that these 5 lb tanks were still available brand new!  Fifty nine dollars each plus shipping!

If anyone is interested I'll share the info to order them.

I've also seen them on eBay, recertified, for about $50.

As far as I know, only a Manchester "sits in the hole" correctly, like this, because of that flat side:

It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

I had been watching ebay and even contacted the seller of the recertified tanks.  He didn't know if or when he might have more so  I decided to contact Manchester direct and found they still have these in stock.  I was happy to find them!  You can't buy them directly from Manchester though.

I also have one of the new style tanks that doesn't fit exactly.   That is why I kept searching for a original fit tank.  The 1x1 inch block of wood is a great idea  and I will use it on the grill with that tank.

Interesting, it looks like it has the quick release on there?  I've been doing some light reading on this and thought they were all threaded now.

I just picked up a 98 SS and had the tank recertified.

Yes, they are definitely the quick connect tanks.

Great find. This should be super useful for those getting their SS performers to OEM spec.
