Date Code format has changed for 2015.
« on: February 15, 2015, 09:49:27 AM »
I don't think this has been touched on yet, but along with the changes in features for this year, now there is no "AO" code for 2015 kettles. Weber appears to be moving to an all individual serial number format for this year. The serial numbers actually started in 2013 with certain models like the Performers, 26"ers and WSMs.

Here's the breakdown of what to look for:

It's still date coded in the serial # with a prefix denoting the years:

CN####### = 2013 (AT)
CS####### = 2014 (AH)
CU####### = 2015 (No two letter code)

So with this format, this would change our reference to 2015 kettles as CU code/serial. Just some things to look out for when scanning for kettles and determining their age. This marks the first major change in serial/date coding by Weber since 1979.

This is from a 2015 Copper One Touch Gold on display at Lowe's last week.

Do we know if the new serial number system uses a word as the root for the date code, like "AUTHORIZED" in the previous system?  The only word I can come up with that fits is "CONSUMABLE".  It has 10 non repeating letters, has C as the "1" letter and N,S,U as the "3,4,5" letters. What does everyone else think?

If you go to the Weber site for replacement parts it now asks for a Serial #. Very frustrating.
I cook on: Backwoods Gater, Lang 36, Hunsaker Smokers, Pellet Pro 22" WSM, BGE's, WSM's, Cajun Bandits, PK Grills, Drum Smokers, Genesis Silver C, Weber Q's, Cookshack 008, Little Chief, La Caja China #2, Lodge Sportsman...oh yeah! Weber Kettles! Kamado restoration and pit modification hack!

I own a new (metal table) Crimson Performer and the vent code is AH.  Strange right?

Does your performer have a serial number as well as the '14 date code?  And if it does what is the prefix?

The new 2015 features launched late in the 2014 model year so there are some AH kettles out there now with 2015 ash cans and newer features. Kind of like the '79 kettles that had either style of twist on ash pans.

That's too bad.  I think everyone appreciated the letter date code.

i was told the serial number for the performers was on the cart portion and not on the vent.  (by an ace hardware employee/weber guru)  so maybe it's different for perfs.

I only use kettles with lid bales.

You can still determin age based on the first two digits of the new serial #'s so dating shouldn't be an issue. As Craig said I think this is just a bit of a transition time from one format to the next.

You also cannot register a new Mastertouch online. I have had mine for months and Weber still has not added it to their product line on the registration page.
