In my uninformed mind it would cost them time and money to retool the line, i think that the bail is larger with the same holes in the bowl.
Wanted: 18" Platinum any color will work

ok, the internal measurement on both my older MT and SS Perf have the holes for the hood bale at approx 18 1/4-1/2 inches apart inside the bowl.

the internal measurement on the new perf is approx 17 1/8 apart.

i'm not sure what the bale measurements on the newer plastic table top versions but i would guess they'd be the 18 1/4-1/2 measurement.

I only use kettles with lid bales.

I wonder if weber customer service will let you order one? They will probably tell you it won't fit an older style.

you're welcome six.  also, my measurement is directly across the inner part of the kettle, across the top of the grilling surface, not around the kettle on the outside.

I am sure it can be made to fit the older kettles but since it sounds like the holes for the bale are further towards the back on the new models I wonder if that is the reason the lid sets straight up and out of the way .  Someone will be trying it as soon as they become available I sure, hope it works like the pictures we have seen because I love the idea of the lid sitting that far back out of the way.
