I'd never have given it any thought if I hadn't seen them next to each other today. Two performers from the same era and having the same vent codes, have wire baskets that are different to each other.

Check it.

I like those short ones, would like to find some.

I have had the tall ones, not a an I would rather find the short ones too.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Yup the tall ones are too tall. Twice ive forgot and filled them up and ran wayyy too hot!

I've got two of the tall ones, and one of the short ones. The short ones are much nicer... definitely prefer to use it. Slightly larger than the aluminum ones that are sold today.

Wow, I had no idea...  I have two sets of the taller baskets, but now I feel I must have the shorter ones, too.  I know Weber was selling the taller ones as recently as a year ago.

If they are same diameter and the shorts are better, couldn't you cut a few bars off the top with Dremel or grinder?

They aren't the same footprint. The taller ones are actually narrower too.

The taller ones are pretty useful for several applications, though:  they are nice when cooking whole poultry (and especially turkeys) because they get the coals a bit further away from the bird so that the wings and legs don't burn, and I really like them when using the rotisserie-- I put a beater top grate in, then set the tall wire-style baskets on top of it so the food cooks *from the side*, which helps with browning.
