Fire Capt, click the "search" tab in the gray bar running across the top (not the search box in the upper corner), then enter "Beer Can Chicken"  & in the author space "MacEggs" & click "Show as Posts" no quotes on any of them..................

You have to go thru the search this way, I cannot save a finished search & have it post correctly for others to view.........It shows several of Mark's cooks & related comments......

I have done it this way several times. Works great! Cook 'em in the basement.
The pics below was my first time using this method. Probably used too much charcoal.
I have learned to cut back on that since then.

Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

Called a fail, but it does give other ideas on setup & would work fine if you're not BBQ'ing in - 14 degree weather like the crazy Canuck................. 8)

My brother had this ring made up at the local tin shop for 30 bucks.  I can get 4 chickens in the 21.5 without any problems.

I use a chimney starter to get the charcoals started.  Then I put them into the baskets.  Next I put in an aluminium disposable pan that I bend to fit. Next I take my welders gloves and flip the greats upside down holding the wings in.  I place the grate on so the wings make a shoot for the wood chips and extra charcoals if needed.  Now goes the extension ring, then the lid.
The ring gives me more chicken room and keeps the birds off the dome so they don't get scorched.

I've also used a mix of beer and Dr. Pepper.  Give it a try.

Looks nice, Mark !
Love that custom ring....a Cajun Stacker at 25% of the cost !
You should post a How-To on that ring.

It was made at a local tin shop for $30.00.  My brother took his kettle for them to measure.  The only things I had to do to it was drill holes and add 1/4-20 X 2" pan head screws with nuts and lock washers and paint it with VHT paint.
I may add handles some day, but that's it.

It's just a local sheet metal shop where they make all kinds of stuff.  Mostly ducts for furnaces.
