Then, the thought occurs, MAYBE these are an original manufacture replacement handle?

I was thinking original replacement too.  If that is true it would be awesome to find one of those NOS in the original packaging.

Not impossible, I suppose, but look at what was happening around that time:
moving toward single screw handle
Weber's exploring the gas market
Not all that many "extras" on the store shelves, some accessories, but not the replacement parts like you see nowadays
Most likely a thing that could be ordered from the factory is my best guess, probably wrapped in blank newsprint in a plain brown box............

Wow.  A brownie in that condition is nothing but awesome.  Of coarse brownies are my favorite, oh yes I like chocolate brownies to. ;D

Yes!  Cooper Mist is such a nice, pure 70s colorway and it perfect for that Shish set.  Really nice combo.

I, for one, think someone did a home repair on the handle.

I have done that same repair myself in fact, although I of course use a standard hex nut wedged in the hole.  A less reckless repair-er might use a fancy nutsert.

Whoever owned that thing prior clearly cared for it, based on condition.  If it was heavily used the handle may have loosened and the prior owner decided to tighten it.

Clearly, JMHO, but I strongly suggest this handle did not precurse rivets .......

That is another distinct possibility, G$......they did take care of the grill & it could've been someone who would take the time to do a good replacement like that.......if it is a Weber re-fit,  would think it came at the end of the two rivet time......here they start using screws, then move to one w/ the holder tabs......maybe?
