Let me introduce - My new Red Head
« on: June 02, 2014, 03:59:50 PM »
This is my latest, for those who saw my post the other day, my newest agent (my wife) picked this up for me.

I did a clean up today, I always get impatient when it comes to a clean up but  here it is anyway.

All vents are tight and overall this kettle is in great shape.  Put a new set of legs and wheels on it, reused the triangle.

on another day I will lightly sand the handle and put some teak oil on it

Cleaned up on the inside, not perfect but not bad - oh yeah,  corn and tater included

Turned out pretty nice Jeff!

Let me ask, would any of you paint the spots on the lid?

 You could, I wouldn't........

Color match is one issue, heat resistance, while the stated temp on the can says that, may or may not work, depending on exact conditions.................

Need to clear rust (<< biggest deal for paint failure), maybe primer, then sanding careful, paint 'till close match & clear coat....lotta work & it may not match that gorgeous ripping texture you have already there......
 One opinion only...............

I have been inclined not too, I think they happened because the hook does not hold the lid very well, there is not much to keep it on.

I have to say I LOVE the rich Red color.  I am going to make this one mine.

Buckie, regarding the corn and tater, it has some rust and looks green, how would you clean it up if you had it?  steel wool?

Great score, LB!

Let me ask, would any of you paint the spots on the lid?

I personally would not put any on the lid. It's the most visible part of the kettle.
I applied paint on a red 18 I rescued last fall. Only on the bowl, mainly to cover up the JB weld I used for small holes.
Not all of the paint has held up. The JB is still holding up.

It's obviously your call.
