I got the idea for adding a hanger to one after seeing this photo. Sorry it's small, I couldn't enlarge it.

Here's one someone turned into a smoker.

I cooked a hot dog in a campfire once.
Oh and I made some smores too.....
I bet if I set a 26'r grate on top I could hang food from it on "S" hooks over a flat be of coals. You could also set a 26'r grate on the top and just cook on it that way. I'm just brainstorming and coming up with ideas for using the fireplace for cooking as well as campfires.
This is as close as we get over here

I never get tired of that cool firepit Hogsy. Ever see a speckled fireplace? It's not faded either.

Duke, that first picture you posted is the "Show Pit" down at Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, TX. Cool place, but so-so BBQ IMHO. They actually use gassers in the back to pump out the BBQ volume for the masses. Their show pit has become a tourist spot now where everybody that visits Austin has to go get a picture.

Back to cooking on the FP though....I know a lot of people have had good success with the Pit Barrel Cooker hanging method....maybe you could figure some way to get some meat hooks hanging....

Thanks Max, I like the sausage chandelier in "The Show Pit". I think hooks like that would work hanging from a 26 inch grate. I'll try it tomorrow and take a picture.

Were you at camp? You know the camp for special campers? ;D 8)
I know y'all are talking about cooking on a fireplace, but who here actually uses sand and who doesn't? I just picked one up the other day and I'm not sure if I should go with the sand or without. I also hear you can put a charcoal grate to raise up the firewood. And to stick to topic: no, I haven't tried cooking on a fireplace, but I bet it's doable.

My MT doubles as a fire pit whenever the kids have a s'mores cravings after dinner.

Yes, you can put a 22 charcoal grate on the bottom to raise the wood up and it helps. We now have evidence that a Weber fireplace can be cooked on, because if Brian can do it anyone can. ;)
Great picture Crumb!
