OK East Coast WKCers, it's time to start planning a major meetup. I mentioned a while back that I'm willing to host it at my place in Southern PA - just North of Baltimore, South of York, not far from Washington DC etc, etc. Easy to find, and cheapish hotels in the area for overnighters. Bring a tent and you can camp out if you like. I have a fire pit, and a nice stream running though one section of the property.
I'm thinking the Saturday before Memorial Day, (May 24th) but I'm open to other suggestions.
I have a large car-port that will keep rain off the collectible kettles in the event we need it, and plenty of room to cook. I have my own dozen or so kettles that will be on display or in use, and you can bring whatever you like to show off, eat, drink or swap with others. I have an amazing door prize for those in attendance. Like Jeff's last year, I hope to get Weber corporate involved.
Anyone from anywhere in the WKC world is invited. Bring your wife/SO/kids. So let's hear it! Who's in?
I will try my best to make it.
Sounds like fun Marty.
I suppose I could drive the 20min to make that happen ;D
Sounds like fun.
I've got it on my calendar! Would likely be me and my three kids.
Thanks for hosting and organizing this, Marty!
I'm definitely interested in coming. I'm not sure if I can convince my wife to come with our son since she thinks everyone on the internet is a serial killer.
I'm not good enough at anything on the grill so I'll bring a case of good local beer.
The 24th of May is earmarked in my calender!
If it helps, let the wives know that they are very welcome. My wife will be there, and likely my DIL and two grandkids. When we met in Chicago last year, I think the women had a good time. And hey - they can always help weed the garden! ::)

For those interested, and especially if you are bringing kids. there's a great steam train in a nearby town that does daily excursions. It's an amazing thing to see - and ride:

Gettysburg is not far away either if you are making a weekend out of it.
How old are the grandkids? My son will be about 18 months by then.
Roughly 6 and 3. (boy/girl)
I'm busy the weekend before and after the 24th. Sorry for you all, but I should be able to attend this function. lol
Damn Marty, I just realized what you meant when you posted the Saturday before Memorial Day, (May 24th)
I read it as May 17th for the Meet-up. My bad, but my loss as I'm 'out' for the 24th. :(
Hey Bman - no worries. I'm kind of locked into the 24th at this point. If your plans change you know where to find us.
Memorial Weekend is a big event for us each year with Rolling Thunder. I wouldn't expect you to alter your plans, just more bummed I can't be in 2 places at the same time. I'll have to watch this one like the majority of the WKC --- via photos.
Marty,
We want to try and make it. Sounds like a ton if fun.
Bumping this back for an update. Wanted to let people know what I'm planning to cook, and to get ideas for what else people want to cook so I can have the right grills ready. You are welcome anytime after 11am. Address will be sent via PM to confirmed attendees.
I plan to smoke a couple pork shoulders the night before, so pulled pork is on the menu for sure. My wife will do smoked potato salad, and I'll have Amish jumbo hot dogs. Nearly everything else in my collection will be fired up, including the 26er, Performer, vintage 18s and 22s, Jumbo Joe, and maybe a few others. I have a rotisserie, a Kettle Pizza, kabob ring, rib racks and other toys for anyone wanting to use them. I'll fire up the fire pit if anyone wants to do smores.
Bring you own beer if you like, but I'll have Yuenglings to share, along with sodas and water.
Anyone have a set of bags they can bring? I have horseshoes.
Should be a good time. I'm really looking forward to it.
Marty
At this point, I'm in and can bring anything along you need to help out.......food, beer, ice, chairs, pop up canopy, grills, charcoal, you name it. I'm only 20 min up the road and roll up and down I83 every day if you need a hand getting anything set up

Marty, I have cornhole and Kan jam I can bring.
You guys are killin' me! Then again, I'm killin' myself having 2 events on that same weekend...
Mark me down for bringing a case of beer. Please let me know what else I can bring as I don't plan on cooking since I'm not confident enough in my grilling skills.

Cancel one, duh!!
Ugh...Marty, how late do you predict this event will last? I just found out that my best friends daughter's first birthday party is the same day. :(
No specific end-time in mind. What time do you think you can be here? We can always swap numbers so you can check in, but you are welcome to come any time and stay as long as you like.

I'm waiting to hear when the party is supposed to actually start. Rumor is 1pm. I can't imagine that it will be more than 2 hours though.
OK WKC - Time to confirm your participation in the Mid Atlantic Meetup on Saturday, May 24th! Noon - ? Pack up the family truckster and head to South-central Pennsylvania! PM me for the address and phone number and let me know how many people will attend or who you are carpooling with. Trust me, I have unlimited parking. I'm making pulled pork, kabobs (you will see an original NIB kabob ring in action!), smoked potato salad and will have Old Bay chips, water, beer and a few other things. Plenty of grill space for your own masterpieces. Let me know what you are planning to cook so I can prep a kettle for you. I have a CB rotisserie, kettle pizza, and gourmet system with a wok and sear grate if you need any or all of those. Bring your own kettles to show off, swap or cook on.
Can't wait!
I'm planning on coming but it will be later in the afternoon. We have a birthday party at 1pm and will try to get out of there as soon as possible. I'll leave the wife and kid at home. :)
If I can I might come down just to meet some of you and put the faces to your name/handle on here. I live right outside Harrisburg so a trip down 83S to 695 and 95 is not a big deal. I would just like to meet everyone. Think it would be great fun.
Brian
Great Brian - I just sent a PM to ask if you're coming, but you beat me to it. I'll send another PM with the address now...
I did some checking and looks like I'm a go for this get together. My wife said we didn't have anything setup for that weekend so I was free to go and have some fun with all the other WKC members. ;D
Brian
Fantastic! Looking forward to seeing you there.
Marty
Hoping for sunny weather!
Oh Man - you jinxed it! ::)
I do have a big carport, tents and some indoor space...just in case.
Crap
facepalm
It only rains at race tracks and when I want to go fishing in my kayak. ;D
Two weeks from today! I can't wait. I've been busy getting a few things ready, like this recent acquisition. Any guesses? If I have not sent you a PM, and you ARE attending the Meetup, let me know and I'll get you the address. Everyone is welcome to bring food to share. I'm sure there'll be plenty.
Oh, and if you like black grills, this is THE meet up to come to. Now, GUESS THE GRILL:
Correct guess wins the grill right? :p
Not saying that, but I CAN say a grill will be given away at the Meetup. ;)
I'm voting that it's an SS performer
So close PEZ! If only you had answered in the form of a question. The correct response should have been: "What is an unused 1998 Stainless Steel Performer?" 8)
I presume your clue was the tiny fragment of the therm-holder? Well, OK, you get the prize - presuming you'll be there. It's not THIS unused grill, but it is an unused grill, and it's a Weber. Do I have your attention? :o
More door prizes for attendees to be unveiled at the event. If you show up, your name is in the hat. (SOs and kids too!)
"The correct response should have been: "What is an unused 1998 Stainless Steel Performer?" 8)"
Prefaced by: "I'll take kettles for $800, Alex......"
;D
Although you don't need anywhere near 1/4 that to pick up an unused SS. (What you do need is a friendly agent. ;)) Full report when I have it home and together. I'll show it off at the meet up, and it will likely be fired up for the first time in it's 16 year-old life.
I have it on good authority that unused SS Performer Marty got was another one from Agent X.....
He (or she) is everywhere lately. Those of us who are beneifciaries are on a permanent gag order. :-X Bond had Q. We have X.
I hope there are door prizes for those that are late! Maybe a lump of coal? ;)
Door prizes will be later in the day. It's the early-leavers that will miss out!
I'm counting the days to make it this meetup. ;D Just dumped the address into my GPS. I knew it didn't seem too far and to my surprise its only 49 miles. Might leave early and head to Hamstead Md to BBQ Equip. store to pick up some of my favorite charcoal briquettes (Humphrey's Brand). Might need to make some room in my car so I can get 10ea 20lb bags in my little Matrix.
;D ;D ;D
(Sound of Mike Googling 'BBQ Equipment Store'*)
Getting closer. Forecast shows good weather for the weekend, temps around 70, partly cloudy, light winds. Let's show those left-coasters and Chi-town hustlers how it's done! Look for set-up previews beginning mid-week.
Can't wait. I'll be bringing a table top gas happy cooker if anyone is interested.
QuoteLet's show those left-coasters and Chi-town hustlers how it's done!
I hope you have a fantastic meet up!
With regard to showing the left-coasters how its done, I think once the photos go up you will see that we set the bar pretty high....
Winz
I can't wait!
Here's a list of those who are planning to attend so far. I know some are tentative, or may be here later in the day. Just want to be sure I have everyone accounted for. If you are not on this list, and plan to be here, send me a note and I'll get you the address.

I am making pulled pork, kebabs, potato salad, cole slaw, and will have water, lemonade, ice tea, Old Bay chips, plates and utensils, and maybe a few other things. We could use beans, deserts, ABTs, Moinks, etc, chips, and whatever you like for you and whoever you bring. I have badmitton, horseshoes, and a couple open fields for whiffle ball, frisbee or ?
I have a few 22s, a 26, an 18, a couple Performers, a SJP, a fire pit, and maybe more. We'll fire them all up. There will be room for sale items, trade items, show & shine, and ?. Door prizes are accumulating!
Bring a chair for yourself just in case. I have a bunch, but we may run out. We have a hot tub if anyone is interested in taking a dip, but unlike the OZies, we will not be grilling in it.
See you Saturday!
I'm still figuring out if it will be just me, or my wife & son.
I'm so excited for this! I'm going to try and smoke some pretzels this week so I'll bring them. I'll also bring a couple six packs along. Don't know exactly what time I'll be there unfortunately. :(
I could whip up a batch of beans for the group. Do we have a rough head count (including kids and/or SOs)? Also, do we have an estimated chow time?
I guess my real question is if I should cook them ahead of time and just bring them along, or should I plan to just drop them on a grill when I get there?
I'm flying solo and plan to bring my Yellow MBH to cook on. I'll also bring a case of frosty beverages that I'll be willing to share.
I'm guessing chow time will begin around 1, and continue non-stop throughout the day. ;D Your call as to partial/pre-cook or not. Whatever works for you should be fine. Headcount is looking like 20 or so, including "others". Might be a few on either side of that. I don't think lack of food/drink will be a problem. Might be a good idea to bring a few storage containers for leftovers and "samples"
Wow, Marty this sounds like it will be an amazing meet!
Pre-staging today. Plenty to perve here, with a measure of mystery. Pork shoulder goes on later tomorrow. Jucy Lucys on the Performer tonight as a warm up.
Tick, tick, tick...

Good times coming up, excited to see photos Marty. Enjoy!!
Marty. I'll bring apple pie baked beans and my wife is making Waldorf salad. I'll be doing a meat too, just not sure what yet.
This is going to be awesome. I will bring chips and other snacks. Can't wait to meet every one.
Looking good, Marty. I'm excited for you guys!
I'm confirming that I will have some smoked Old Bay pretzels. I'd love for you all to try them and give me your honest opinion.
I will be bringing honey bourbon glazed wings and hopefully pineapple upside down cake.
This looks really well planned out. Marty, you're lucky to have last years Chicago party as a baseline. Looks like you're aiming high. Can't wait to see photos.

Less than 24 hours to the M/A meetup - or should I say MEATUP! The kettles are moving into position. At least one of these will be offered for sale. I have one of those properties that has lots of nooks and crannies - trying to make sure a Weber product is never out of sight. ;)

Hate to hear that hatch. But I am glad all is well at the house.
Ditto Hatch. Not the kind of smoking anyone likes. Best of luck getting things sorted out at home.
Absolutely perfect time today in sunny PA. More photos to come, but I wanted to start with the most important ingredient to a great meetup: great people. Thanks to everyone for making it amazing!

You're in the middle......one day we're ALL comin' to your house !!!!
When Marty asked for a 'group photo', we weren't sure if he was talking about the people or the kettles!
(So we did both.)
Thanks a million for a perfect gathering, Marty. I saw a lot of breathtaking grills, ate some grate food, and met some wonderful people. The only folks in the world who don't think me odd for talking Weber nonstop while also eating and cooking. My kind of people!

I started to tell my wife about how great it was to smoke the fish on a 26, and she stopped me short: "Whoa, whoa, whoa, don't even start!"
;-) She knows me too well.
What a great time. It was a pleasuring meeting everyone and trying their wonderful creations. I just wish I were able to have been there from the beginning. Marty, thanks again for hosting, you and your wife have a beautiful property.
I wanted to thank Marty and his family for putting together the WKC meet. Had a great time meeting everyone. Then it was time to eat some fantastic food. If that wasn't enough was able to see some awesome vintage Weber kettles. To top everything off Marty had a bunch of door prizes he gave away. Wow I know I'm missing something but can't think of anything right now.
Marty thanks again for all your hard work. It turned out great and the weather was perfect for the event.

All in all, an absolutely excellent afternoon. I also managed to walk away with more grills than I showed up with. For guessing correctly on Marty's mystery grill, I was handed a brand new in the box charcoal Go-anywhere with wooden handles. I had been looking for one for a long time, so I was grinning ear to ear.
To top it off, I went from the meetup to a cook out at a friends house. This friends back yard butts up to a house that has been vacant for over a year. There has been a Happy Cooker rotting behind their shed for as long as I can remember. I asked my friend to ask about it if they ever saw the owners. To make a long story short, they had said to take whatever I wanted from it.......so I came home with an internal ash pan as well. It's dirty, but still very solid. I can't wait to get it cleaned up and put it to use in my Yellow MBH.

Watching the yellow kettle change colors was amazing. Never new they did that so maybe I will need to add a yellow Weber to my collection some day.
Really liked the brownie. It was in great shape.
Not that I didn't get my fill yesterday, and guess this makes me a glutton, but I had some ribs in the fridge, and thought I may as well do them tonight. My thinking was: well, the smoker is right there, and it's barely cooled off, so...

And I know this belongs in the "show us your charcoal stash" thread, but the sign relates to the Meetup yesterday; how else were they going to find us?
I had more than one say they swore they heard deliverance banjo music playing as they came down our gravel road. If it weren't for the sign...

Marty. Thank you so much for putting this meet up together. It was so awesome to finally meet some of the guys from this club and actually put some faces with the names. Great group of guys. All the food was really good, it was definitely cool seeing all the different show pieces together for the group kettle shot. The Family and i had a great time Thank you again.
These meetups are filling in a huge gap in our knowledge, I think. Like watching a cooking show on TV, we can be entertained by one another and impressed with images of each other's food. But after eating some of the food the WKC turns out, I can say with confidence that there are some damn fine cooks in this crew-- I didn't eat one thing yesterday that wasn't delicious, with perfect seasonings and balance. So if you're following WKC from afar and wondering if these people even know how to cook, you can stop wondering-- they really do. And we've all got a lot to learn from one another! Let the adventure continue.

Not that I didn't get my fill yesterday, and guess this makes me a glutton, but I had some ribs in the fridge, and thought I may as well do them tonight. My thinking was: well, the smoker is right there, and it's barely cooled off, so...

Looks like it was a big success! Great job to Marty for planning and hosting. Great job to all those that attended to make it a festive and successful meetup! Great photos...any more pics?
Nice job, everyone. The eats looked great! Killer line up of kettles too.
Yes everything looks great. Meetups are the best just getting together with grillfellas as one big family.
Just went thru the whole thread again. What a great time it was. The pictures where great as I had a chance to look at some of the great food that was on hand. Sure was fun meeting everyone. Til the next time I will just keep reading all the great threads on WKC and learning from everyone.
Agree! We might have to do another meetup before Winter. Good times!
