Was the triangle on the 1969 wider than a 2013. Purchased a new kit and the width is not the same. Bought a 22.5 replacement wheel, leg and triangle kit.
They should be the same size, except for the part where it sticks into the front leg is engineered a little differently, but should still fit perfectly. I'll need to whip out my '75 triangle and compare it to my '12 and do a size comparison. Is your original '69 triangle and wheels beyond restore? ???
Triangle is salvageable, wheel are not great. Was looking to start with a whole new lower half and put other parts in storage for safe keeping.
Wondered about this.....
the really old kettles seem to have the legs streched out at a wider angle.....wonder if the position of the leg sockets changed somewhere along the line?
I know one thing the new triangle wouldn't work at all.
Interesting. I am going to do some measuring saturday on mine and will report back what I have and we can compare. I have a nib current tfiangle as well as a 69 triangle.

I measured a Pat.Pending & an early 2000's & it looked the same....was getting dark, I'll check again............
When I held them together the end rods appeared to be an inch longer on either side. Maybe I'm missing something here.
This is the kit I bought maybe someone can help me understand what is going on.

OK.......it's hard to get exact, exact measurements with them still on the kettle, but here's what I found:
The Pat. Pending red is 18-1/8" to the OUTSIDE of the largest triangle weld, in other words, where the legs would have to stop & could compress no furthur.........
Most accurate I can be, the outside dimension to the tips of the hubcaps is right about exactly 22-1/2".....I already knew that, 'cause I always thought that was interesting that it was the same as the diameter of the bell itself.......
Measured what I beileve is a 2011, the wife's OT Gold & the length to that outside of the LARGEST triangle is maybe 1/8" wider, at the most & the overall length is the same......
As best as I can guess, this must have JUST changed, like maybe this year......if the triangle is salvageable, like stated up above, maybe the best thing would be to use the original for that?
I get that the plan was an all new undercarridge, but something's afoot, like Dr. Watson used to say........ :o
If you're able, post a pic of them next to each other, axle to axle......
Maybe your old Kettle is actually a 26er? Lol.. 8)
I have a brand new leg kit on my yellow from the mid 70's, fits like a champ....

Well I think I may be on to figuring out the problem. It appears that they may have sent an 18.5 Triangle as the
total length from end to end (The Axle) is only 20-1/4". When placed beside the 69 Triangle it is short by about a
few inches. I guess I can contact Weber and see what they say. The kit I purchased was for a 22.5" Grill according to
their website.

I measured the original triangle on my mid 70s black and compared it to a spare 2012 triangle, exactly the same size and with, only difference is Weber changed the hook that goes in the front leg, its more C shaped nowadays. The old ones have more of a
^ shape and you see half of the
^ when its fully assembled into the front leg. Both styles fit perfectly. Are you going to get it exchanged?
Craig, I struggle a bit with the c or hook shaped traingles. Seriously I fiddle with them in a 720 degree fashion until i can get them out or in.

Agreed. The new ones are a PITA to get in and out of the front leg. Why Weber reengineered the front hook is beyond me. :-\
I actually prefer the new style vs the old hook. It hides it better
and locks the leg in good.

"and locks the leg in good."
That's what's behind the rocket science.....guarantee they've had a few gripes about them coming loose / falling out over the years......one of the few Achilles Heel's
Contacted Weber and they are sending me a triangle out. Will update when I receive it. I now have a replacement triangle for my 18.5. ;D

Maybe I'm crazy but the new style feels more solid. Of course I'm a Weber neophyte. As Dennis Miller says "That's just my opinion, I could be wrong! Aw fuck it, Who wants pie!

Love Dennis Miller! Been a fan since his SNL days. Wish his radio show was still on in my market. :(
I listen to his show via my iPhone and tunein radio, your right he's great.
Replacement Triangle arrived and fits perfect . The 22.5 kit had a 18.5 triangle in it.
