Title: Value in the box vs out of box
Post by: 90b4032 on October 29, 2025, 07:29:51 AM
I've got a couple Webers I have found over the years that are NIB. One is a Char-Q and the other a Smokey Joe Platinum. I would really like to assemble and display them along with a couple other kettles I have but I just can't bring myself to remove them from the box. From a value standpoint, would removing them from the box diminish the value to a collector? I know they aren't highly sought after grills but finding them in the box is difficult.

I can only speak for myself.... In regards to the Smokey Joe Platinum aka Outrider, it wouldn't matter to me if the grill was in the original packaging - but would be a plus to have it, especially if it were a green or red model.
As for the Char Q, it wouldn't matter to me either if it were out of the box and I wouldn't really care about the original packaging.

Some will disagree, as this is pretty subjective and depends on the collector's wants and needs.

Bottom line for me.... If they were mine I'd get em out and enjoy them - either for display or cooking.  Can't take it with you and if left in a box all of my life then all I really had was a box.

Good luck with your decision!

I'm a box opener for sure, enjoy looking at it, it's yours!
