Title: What Wine/Beer/Spirits are you drinking
Post by: Cabernet on August 28, 2025, 12:39:36 PM
Hi All
I have been in the alcohol industry for about 35 years and I thought this might be a good place to talk about some drinks that we enjoy with our feasts.
Cheers
Frank

Great topic!  We like Yellow Tail reds - good quality for the $$.  We sometimes venture to a white and like Chateau St. Michelle's offerings.  Sam Adams varieties are my beer of choice unless at the beach where we do Michelob Ultra or Miller Lite and Oyster City Mill Pond Dirty Blonde.

Cheers!

Wine collecting is one of my "other" passions (obsessions) besides Webers. You might be able to tell that by my Forum handle. My favorite wine is Gaps Crown Pinot Noir from Kosta Browne Winery in Sebastopol. Kosta Browne is a cult wine and it took my 6 years being on a wait list to get the opportunity to buy directly from the winery. IMHO, Pinot Noir is the most food friendly wine varietal out there. It will pair with pork, chicken, fish and even stand up to red meats.   Big cabernets are great with red meats but I've found as I age, my body does not process or like the big tannins characteristic of cabernets. To bad as I have a shit ton of cabernets in my cellar.

Alborino, a varietal grown in Northwest Spain is my favorite white wine.  There are quite a few wineries now growing and bottling Alborino now in California.

We really enjoy Old Vine Zins. Found St. Francis Winery on a trip to Sonoma, CA and really enjoy their Zins. For beers I enjoy a lot of the craft beers available here in Iowa. We had a brewery right here in town until late last year when it closed. They had a number of really good beers. They had a line of them that they dedicated to local people and even made one dedicated to me. It was called Fresh Ink (I run the local print shop). It was originally a black ale but went to a dark Oatmeal Stout.

My wife doesn't drink much in the way of spirits but I am a Rum, Whiskey, and Gin lover. Especially like Jamaican Appleton Rum.

As you can see by my handle, Cabernet, I have been buying wine for many years, I don't like to call it "collecting" because that usually means that you treat the wine like its a piece of art hanging on the wall. The best and only way is to open them up and enjoy with friends! I love Bordeaux, Tuscan  some old Cali Cabs like Dunn, ,Pinot Noirs from Oregon and Burgundy, Spanish are great buys up here in Toronto, and another great bargain is wines from Portugal. Outstanding price/quality. I love all types of beer . If you are looking for a beer that is totally of the wall, see if you can find Rodenbauch, they are sours, the first taste you are going to say "what is this' but you will keep going back for another taste. I like Bourbon but if I am stuck on a island with only one whisky choice, I would have to have Bellvieni 12 year old Double Wood Single Malt.
Cheers and have a great long week end

Not really a connoisseur, but we have Chateau Ste Michelle chardonnay and Carnivor cabernet sauvignon in the wine rack right now and Stella Artois beer in the fridge.

That is so cool Anthony! :D  Hope you were able to stock in a good supply before the brewery closed.

I enjoy a good pour on Saturday nights.
Unfortunately, most of my faves are allocated
and virtually impossible to find in my area.
For the $$ though, it is tough to beat Buffalo Trace,
which has recently become available virtually everywhere
in my area.  $21 at Costco is such a great deal.

I drink very little beer.  I've got some Landshark in the fridge right now.

As far as wine goes, most frequently I drink Cavit Pinot Noir.  I probably don't drink wine 3 times a week and I like this because (1) it's imported from Italy and (2) it's a single serving bottle, so no waste.  For the upcoming Holidays, when I know that I'll be drinking wine more often, I tend to run, again to Italy, and grab a Chianti Classico.

As far a distilled spirits go, I am a Scotch man.  My daily drinker is Famous Grouse.  It's the most popular brand in a Scotland, so I figure, why argue.  When I'm out I usually drink Johnnie Black.  Oh, and usually keep a fifth Johnnie Double Black around for special occasions.

As far as Single Malts go, I have a lot of them.  I tend to settle on various Balvenies and Dalmores.

Oh, and then there's also the occasional Bombay Sapphire Martini when I'm out with friends and family.

503 days sober. Since I left the hospital I only counted the days out of hospital. I was drinking Johnnie Walker Blue, and Tito's, plus Miller and Heineken beer in the good old days. Now N/A Heineken, and N/A Harley Davidson beer.

If you like Guinness the N/A is great. The Becks N/A is also very good it you like a more bitter style.
