My Hot Rod Yellow 70th Anniversary grill arrived with a warped lid that was promptly replaced by Weber. So now, what do I do with the faulty lid? How about a lamp shade! The lamp is a Woods weather tight industrial light ($25) and the support is ½" black iron pipe and fittings (about $45). I drilled a 13/16" hole centered between the existing handle holes in the lid to accept the threaded pipe, ran the wiring through all of the pipe pieces and then joined them together starting with light. I painted the pipe and for the thermometer and handle holes in the lid, I used black plastic hole plugs (1- 3/8", 2- 5/16"). With the electrical, etc. total cost was about $100. The perfect light for cooking out on my Weber grills!
OMG, that's totally awesome!
Wow, I LOVE that! Nice job......
I dig it. Strong work

That is AWESOME! Love your cooking area. But kinda surprised not to see your metal sign prominently displayed.
You must have a really special place for that. :D
Great repurposing of the lid. Nice work on it as well. Fits perfectly in your cooking area. Thanks to Weber's damage your Anniversary Kettle only cost you an additional $100! Ha, Ha.
This is so cool!!! Good work!

Thanks all, I had to think of something quick because my wife wanted to use it as a planter! :-X

Thanks again everybody, it was a fun project - and having a spare lid made it possible. Here's a parting shot with all the grills tucked away for the night.
Very nice!
That lights things up really well. Perfect for a grilling area. Well done.
Ok, that's really really kewl...
Kudos!!
That's a cool idea, I love the bbq area.
that is some grate work, love the lamp
Great work, cool project!
I did a similar deal with a rechargeable lantern because my shack doesn't have 120v power. I used a Limited Edition lid and painted the inside white. Evidently I didn't do a good job of surface prep because the paint flaked off over the winter. I need to redo that soon.
total dopeness
Nicely done!
