Hi,
I feel like it's time for me to get a different grill grate for my 22 inch kettle. I've used my vortex a few times and now the center of the original grate is all rusty. I want get the kind where the center section is removable, and is hinged on each side for if/when I want to add more charcoal (model 8835 maybe?). There are a few different options.....Brand, price etc. Oddly enough, the Weber option through Amazon doesn't guarantee that it'll fit.

Are any of the off brands worth investigating?

What do you suggest?
Thank you.
I use a SS grate from Adrenaline bbq holds up to the vortex just fine.

+1 on the SnS 22 grate. Mines two years old. It's used 250+ times a year. Great durability and value.

I have one SNS 22" grate and it's been awesome although I never use it with a vortex. I use the Weber Gourmet BBQ grate with the cutout for vortex items. I keep it nice and oily so it's never rusted. It's not even silver anymore, more of a black color.
Another vote for the SnS grate. I use mine with the vortex all of the time. Never an issue.
I recommend the killa grilla grate
Can you please share links to the grill grates you prefer please?
I have the SnS easy spin grate. 304 ss. Had it for 4+ years and it has probably nearly 1000 cooks on it. No rust. No warping. Welds are all still solid. Its the only grate I use for my 22s.
Killagrilla is also very good. If you cook outdoors a lot, quality stainless is really the best choice.

Looks like Killa Grilla will be closing.

I second this. Mark Baron (KG) made the heaviest and nicest grates in the business. I've got a few sets for various sized kettles and they are the stuff. I guess everyone has to retire at some point.

Hunsaker makes a nice ss grate. I have have a Killa Grilla, now going out of business, and a hunsaker. Hunsaker is not as thick as KG, but does not rust either.

Is the design of the removable center piece the same on both the Hunsaker and the Weber Gourmet grates? Lots of complaints about the center piece on the Weber grate falling out, and not a whole lot of reviews/info on the hunsaker.

Thank you.
I've always been perplexed by the complaint that the GBS grate center piece falls out for some folks... I've yet to experience this issue and have hundreds of cooks on multiple different grates (Summit, 22's and Smokefire). Outside of trying to move the insert when hot and it dropping I cant see how this would happen. Has anyone here experienced this issue before?? Maybe I'm misunderstanding.
I think they mean when you take the entire grate out and hang it by the handle when accessing the charcoal grate, the center piece will fall out.
Ahh Gotcha... I rarely hang grates so that makes sense.
