Title: Rib-O-Later
Post by: TXFlyGuy on November 28, 2021, 09:12:43 AM
So, who owns and uses a Rib-O-Later?
What is your experience?
Good, or bad?

Thinking about buying one.

More gimmick than anything else.
Sure looks cool on the vids, and makes great
social media posts.  Does nothing to actually
improve your cook though.  Also, kind of a pain
in the ass to clean.  That said .... I got mine
basically free when I bought a used kettle.
I use it about once a year for the fun of it.

Thanks for the info! They are not cheap.

I have just been threading ribs on to the spit of my roti for a couple of years if I only need to do one rack. Makes for a quick cook and they turn out pretty good.

We always do 3 to 4 racks at a time. Sometimes 6 racks.

I used mine twice and it has been in the grill accessory closet for t least 2 years.  It works great but is a pain to clean. I'll robably never use it again unless I need to impress some guests.

This seems to be the common theme.
I think I will pass on this one.

Heck...for that money, another Kettle could be purchased!

I've looked at these as well and am really not interested.  Next spring I want to get a rib hanging rack for my WSM and try that.  I've heard people that hang ribs in a smoker rarely go back to any other way.

Hanging rib racks? Interesting! The restaurant I worked at in high school did exactly that. There was a fairly large cooking pit, enclosed on all sides with clear glass. The ribs were vertically hung on a hook, and traveled around the inside of the smoker on a monorail track system.

Under the ribs was a huge pan of BBQ Beans, catching all of those awesome fat drippings.

I can't hang ribs with my setup, a Kettle and an offset smoker. Using rib racks is what has been done, with good success. I would prefer to have the ribs lie flat on the grill, however.

You're right about that.
