Has anyone seen Basques sugar maple charcoal for sale anywhere?
I haven't seen any since late winter/early spring 2020 and everywhere I find it mentioned online, it's listed out of stock. It's my favourite charcoal for steaks and I've been unable to find any for the last year and a half so I'm hoping someone knows what the score is, and ideally where it's for sale if it's still on the market.
I discovered this charcoal this year. I have been buying it from two nearby Ace Hardware stores in Villa Park and Lombard Il. I picked up 2 bags last weekend.
Sent from my SM-N975U using Weber Kettle Club mobile app (http://r.tapatalk.com/byo?rid=91018)
It is available here in MO. I'm going to pick some up to try with steaks.
Ok, good to know it's still in production. I definitely recommend trying it with steaks. It became my favourite steak charcoal because it burns hot great for searing and has a very light, clean, sweet smoke that imparts a very subtle flavour.
Now the question becomes finding availability locally and that's clearly already turned into the hard part.
I picked up the one bag I could find through Ace Hardware. Maybe it's not readily available. Haven't tried it yet.
Ok, I cooked those chicken kabobs on it. It had a lighter smoke and scent than the oak, burned fast, and changed colors. It went from black to a beachwood tan while ashing up. Cooked good.

Thanks for the tip - I'll have to stop by on the weekend or early next week. There's no way to leave work at 4:00 in Toronto and get back to Hamilton before they close at 5:00 anymore so it's going to have to be on a day off or when I'm on an afterhours shift...
Also try Chadwick & Hacks. They used to carry it.
