Please tell me if this will work for an internal ash pan.

It is hard to tell from the photo. I usually put my charcoal all to one side to setup two zone cooking. If the ash pan seals up on the side, it will probably catch all the ash, but also block airflow from the intake on the bottom. If it doesn't seal up on the side a significant amount of ash will fall down the edge.
A 22" ash pan works perfectly as an Internal Ash Pan on 18" kettles. No restriction of air flow to the coals and no heat reduction noticed when used. I've been using this method since 2018 when
@addicted-to-smoke posted the idea.

Other than original IAP's, I have not found a suitable replacement use in 22" kettles.
I'm also interested in this topic. I just ordered a 17" pizza pan should arrive tomorrow and hoping it will work as a ash pan.

In my above photo, it's a 22" external ash pan. It was placed inside of my Happy Cooker Kettle. It does not restrict airflow as it rests on the bolts / nuts that hold the dampers in place.
My concern was temperature...will this pan withstand 500-600 degrees F?
When using the dual charcoal baskets and having them center located, I would think this pan would be perfect.

Let us know how it works. A 17" pizza pan should be perfect!
I have not had any problems with the aluminum ash pan withstanding the heat from the briquettes using it as a IAP. This is after using it for over 3 years as a IAP.

Good to know, thanks!
Well my 17" pan ended up being 17.5" and a little to big. I'm going to try and modify it. We'll see how it turns out but I'll show pics if it does.

Good, let us know. It looks like my 22" external pan is working for an internal installation...so far.
The external ash catcher for the 22" is working nicely as an internal ash pan. As long as you have the charcoal baskets centered on the grill.

I was wondering what grill had 3 grate straps like that but now I see the handle.
