Hi guys,
I run a slow n sear in my Weber performer, and over the last year of cooking on my kettle pizza especially I seem to have melted the two rubber components that connect the lid bail to the bowl.
Luckily Weber is sending me a new hardware set (not too shabby for a 9 year old performer).
Anyways, wondering what Im doing wrong and how I can avoid this in the future? I have a feeling this is fro mloading up the lump and throwing wood on top.

Make sure you have a stainless steel washer in between the lid bale roller (plastic thing) and the bowl.
Disconnect the lid bale to get the plastic away from the hot pizza fire... or find a cheap kettle on FB to make a dedicated pizza kettle. High heat that is generated from cooking woodfire pizzas, can be rough on your kettle.

I'd put two stainless finish washers that fit tight on each side, opposing each other so that roller will standoff and the heat has a chance to dissipate.

Or get the new style lid bale, it has a notch that prevents kettle contact. At least that's
how I remember it. Will check when I get home.

Thanks I'll see if that works.

Doesn't somebody (on here maybe?) make wood bails, as a replacement?
@zavod44 makes beautiful kettle handles and wood rollers.
Send me a DM if you need something I can help you....
