Title: SnS: Recommendations?

I have read everyone's glowing reviews of the Slow N Sear. There are enough products on their website to start making my head spin. What do you all recommend for a vintage 22-inch redhead? The standard SnS? The XL? The 2.0? What about the bundles? Which bundle components are must-haves? 

Keeping in mind I"m a steak, chicken breast, and burger guy who is slowly expanding his repertoire into tri tip and brisket.

If you know a welder just get them to make ya one. I made mine for 20bucks

The XL is for the larger 26-inch kettle. Since you appear to want to approach this cautiously, so to speak, spend 59 bucks (+ shipping) on the SnS 1.0...... try it for awhile, using drip pans on the cool side of the grill, and go from there.

That's my recommendation.  I have their $169 "premium" kit, but got it used at a deeply discounted price (see below)

Thanks all, good advice.  Magic Mike, is that a 22-inch cast iron grille? Wow! That thing must be Capital-H Heavy!

I have both the 1.0 and 2.0 both with the stainless drip pan.  Both work about the same, but I like the 2.0 because I can remove the water reservoir if I want and I like the extra charcoal support from below.  If I were starting over I'd get the 2.0 with stainless drip pan for air flow and easy clean up.  Lots of versatility there.  And you can use your Weber grate no problem.  The flip up Weber grate works well with it too.

I use the standard 1.0 in my modern kettles as well as vintage ones.
Works great in either one. I prefer the welded version over the riveted one.
I would like an XL for my 26 but do not feel that it is worth $90 over the cost of the 1.0 so I just use the 1.0 in the 26.
Sure the xl would run longer and have a larger sear area, but if I need a larger searing area I can achieve that without a slow and sear. If I need longer burn time for low and slow I build a snake.
So for me the original is just fine. Spend the $90 on meat and have fun practicing.

If memory serves, that brank of cast iron grate is a Charbroil.  The inner section fits an 18" and when both the inner & outser section are used, they fit a 22".

Correct. Think I paid ~$30 for it 10 or so years ago.

Sweet.  At some point, I found someone selling the outer ring with a regular grate in the inner portion.  I asked if they by any chance still had the inner portion.  Maybe they were using it for a WSM or something.

SS SlowNSear Plus
SS DripNGriddle Pan
SS SlowNSear Raised Grill

Still, as of today, one -happy SlowNSear Customer.
